Laboratory
Overview
Laboratory services are available to Atrius Health patients at most practice locations. The site-based laboratories are responsible for specimen collection , STAT diagnostic tests and point of care testing (POCT), both of which provide results conveniently and immediately to the patient - ultimately allowing for more prompt decision making as it relates to the patient’s care. POCT is performed in the clinical unit by your clinical team and includes blood glucose testing, urinalysis, strep screens, pregnancy testing, fecal occult blood analysis. Routine tests are performed in a central core laboratory in Needham and results are reported to the requesting clinician within 24 hours.
Services at the site-based laboratories include:
- Phlebotomy
- Urine and blood collection
- A number of rapid response tests such as chemistry, hematology and urinalysis with microscopic review among others
- Glucose tolerance testing
A wide range of clinical diagnostic testing can be performed by the central Atrius Health lab. For more specialized tests, the laboratory arranges specimen transport to a reference laboratory that has been carefully selected by your Atrius Health pathologists to fulfill the needs of our practice.
In addition to our clinical labs, Atrius Health has an Anatomic Pathology Lab, which is focused on the testing of tissue and fluid specimens including biopsies and cytology. We offer a rapid service for breast biopsies and other urgent diagnostic dilemmas to assist in the care of our patients with new abnormal findings.
Atrius Health laboratories are accredited by the College of American Pathologists and are committed to excellence in patient care by providing accurate and reliable data in a timely fashion for patient diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring.
Please note: all lab testing requires an order authorized by your clinician.
