Making an Appointment

Your primary care provider or specialist can request a consultation with our genetics department for you, or you can self-refer, depending on your health insurance plan.

Some health insurance companies require you to obtain a referral and/or preauthorization for genetics services. This referral must be obtained before you see the specialist. It is best to check with your health insurance plan prior to the appointment so you are aware of any costs that are not covered.

Please bring appropriate medical records or test results for yourself or of family members to help facilitate your visit. Family pictures and knowledge of your family history will also be very helpful.

The initial genetics appointment may be long (over one hour) and is comprehensive. Follow-up appointments or evaluation of ordered test results may be necessary as well.
