Cosmetic Dermatology

Lasers can be used in the treatment of facial flushing/rosacea, dilated blood vessels, leg veins, hemangiomas and other vascular lesions and birthmarks. Other areas where lasers are beneficial in treatment include facial rejuvenation to improve skin tone and texture, treatment of brown spots, treatment of acne/acne scarring, and laser hair removal.

Our board-certified dermatologists who support the Cosmetic Services & Facial Plastic Surgery department in Wellesley perform many types of laser treatments including:

  • Pulse Dye Laser (PDL) - is used to improve the appearance of spider veins, rosacea, vascular birthmarks including port wine birthmarks and hemangiomas and certain types of scars and stretch marks. Treatment varies depending on the lesion or condition being treated. Several treatments may be required for optimal results.
  • FRAXEL® Restore - is used to improve the appearance of photodamaged skin, mild to moderate periorbital wrinkles, acne scars, surgical scars, and actinic keratosis. Treatment varies depending on the lesion or condition being treated. Several treatments may be required for optimal results. This treatment does require 3-7 days of downtime.
  • Smoothbeam®laser - is used to improve the appearance of acne, acne scars, fine lines and sebaceous hyperplasia (enlargement of the skin oil glands). Treatment varies depending on the lesion or condition being treated. Several treatments may be required for optimal results.
  • GentleLase® laser - is used for hair reduction. In women, the most common areas for treatment are upper lip, chin, bikini line, arms, legs, and underarms. In men, the most common areas for treatment are shoulders, back, and the beard area. Several treatments are required for optimal results.
  • GentleYAG laser® - is used to improve the appearance of vascular lesions, leg veins, brown spot removal and hair removal on dark skin tones. Treatment varies depending on the lesion or condition being treated. Several treatments are required for optimal results.
  • IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) - is used to improve the appearance of photoaged skin, removes age spots (sun-induced freckles), most benign brown pigments, and redness caused by broken capillaries. After an IPL treatment, there is minimal to no downtime, and successful treatments usually require 3 to 5 sessions, 4 weeks apart.
  • Alexandrite laser - is used to improve the appearance of brown spots, lentigines, freckles and age spots and can also be used for tattoo removal. Treatment varies depending on the lesion or condition being treated. Several treatments may be required for optimal results.
