As a patient of Atrius Health, it is important that you are aware of your rights.  We are committed to observing and protecting your patient rights, including your right to:

 

  • Be treated in a caring, respectful, and dignified way, without regard to race, gender, religion, ethnic background, education, social class, physical or mental disability, genetic information, sexual orientation, or economic status, including respect for your civil rights and religious opinions.

  • Know the names of the people – physicians, advanced practitioners, residents, trainees, etc. – who are taking care of you and how they will help you or provide care, and their relationship or affiliation with another health care facility or educational institution.

  • Obtain information regarding expectations of conduct as an established patient.

  • Receive information about your health and the care provided in terms you can understand.

  • Reasonable continuity of care within the scope of services provided by Atrius Health and its available staff.

  • Make informed decisions regarding your medical care, including a discussion of risks, benefits, and alternatives prior to any invasive procedure, except in an emergency, and the decision to discontinue treatment.

  • Refuse to be examined or treated without jeopardizing access to psychiatric, psychological, or other medical care, and to be informed of any potential health and/or legal consequences of this refusal.

  • Refuse to serve as a research subject, receive care or be examined if reason is for educational and not therapeutic purpose.

  • Assistance in interpreting information for you/from you if you are not an English speaker or if you have other communication needs.

  • Privacy during medical treatment or other rendering of care, and privacy and confidentiality of your personal health information/records as provided by law.

  • Be offered emergency contraception, and upon request receive written information about emergency contraception, if you are a rape victim of childbearing age.

  • Review your personal health records or receive a copy for a reasonable fee.

  • Examine and receive a full explanation of any charges for our services, regardless of the source of payment.

  • Access to prompt, lifesaving treatment for emergent or urgent care, regardless of one’s ability to pay or status as an established patient, in locations with an available certified emergency department.

  • Upon request, receive any information available regarding financial assistance and free healthcare.

  • If a patient in a residential facility and refused treatment due to lack of payment source, transfer to an alternate facility agreeable to accept and assume responsibility for care.The discharging facility must coordinate and cover the cost of transfer, including resident’s transportation.

  • Inform the Atrius Health Privacy Office of concerns and/or complaints without fear of reprisal, by calling 1-617-559-8411.
